transglycosylation

transglycosylation A mechanism for glycosidic (see GLYCOSIDE) bond formation, particularly during polysaccharide synthesis. Nucleoside phosphate derivatives act as activated donor compounds in which the energies of their glycosidic bonds are partially conserved in the reaction products. Glycosides cannot be synthesized spontaneously from free monosaccharides owing to the high negative free energy (−ΔG) of the hydrolysis reaction.
