Alexander Robertus Todd

1907-1997

Scottish chemist best known for his work on chemicals of biological importance, such as vitamins, nucleotides, and nucleotide co-enzymes. He was awarded the 1957 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Todd also investigated the properties of vitamins B1, B12, and E as well as the chemistry of some cannabis species. He was raised to the peerage in 1962 as Baron Todd of Trumpington.
