Michael Clifford

1952-

American astronaut who made the first space-walk from a spacecraft docked to an operating space station. This spacewalk, six hours in duration, was conducted to mount experiment packages on the docking module of the Russian space station Mir. A former Army officer, Clifford also served as mission specialist on two other space shuttle flights and worked as a military liaison with NASA prior to selection as an astronaut.
