American actress. Born Iris Adrian Hostetter, May 29, 1912, in Los Angeles, California; died Sept 17, 1994, in Hollywood, California; m. Charles Over, 1935 (div., 1936); m. George Jay; m. "Fido" Murphy (well-known football player and consultant to the Chicago Bears).
Debuted as a dancer in the Ziegfeld Follies (1929); as one of Hollywood's popular wise-cracking actresses (1930s), appeared in over 150 films, including Gold Diggers of 1937, Road to Zanzibar, Roxie Hart, To the Shores of Tripoli, Orchestra Wives, Ladies of Burlesque, Bluebeard, The Paleface, Blue Hawaii and That Darn Cat.
