Iranian actress. Born May 11, 1952, in Tehran, Iran; m. Houshang Touzie (actor).
Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for film The House of Sand and Fog (2003), was the 1st Iranian and Middle Eastern actress to be nominated for an Oscar; other films include Shatranje bad (1976), Gozaresh (1977), Sooteh-Delan (1978), Guests of Hotel Astoria (1989), Maryam (2000), Surviving Paradise (2000), America So Beautiful (2001), and The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005).
