Aptheker, Bettina (1944–)
American sociologist and feminist. Born in 1944; dau. of Herbert Aptheker (Marxist historian).
While teaching women's studies at San Jose State University and University of California at Santa Clara, gained recognition in the protest and feminist movements (1960s); was also one of the directors of the American Institute for Marxist Studies; collaborated with father on Racism and Reaction in the United States (1971); teamed with Angela Davis for If They Come in the Morning: Voices of Resistance (1971), then wrote an account and analysis of the Davis trial, The Morning Breaks (1975); also wrote The Academic Rebellion (1972) and Woman's Legacy: Interpretative Essays in US History (1980).
