English stage and screen actress. Born Mary Cragg, Sept 2, 1870, in Wigan, Lancashire, England; died May 9, 1951, in London; m. James Alexander Paterson.

Spent the 1st 20 years of career touring the provinces; made London debut in Petronella (1906), followed by Rutherford and Son, Strife, East of Suez (to great success), The Elopement, The Little Minister, Prisoners of War, The Fanatics, Little Eyolf, Love on the Dole, Jane Eyre, Anna Christie and Bedtime Story; films include Woman to Woman, The Lodger, Hobson's Choice, Major Barbara, Love on the Dole, We Dive at Dawn, I See a Dark Stranger and Madness of the Heart.
