Chase, Martha (1927–2003)
American scientific researcher. Born Nov 30, 1927; died Aug 8, 2003, age 75, in Lorain, Ohio; attended College of Wooster; University of Southern California, PhD, 1964; married briefly.
Was a research assistant for biologist Dr. Alfred D. Hershey at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island (1952); with Hershey, devised an experiment to determine whether DNA or its associated protein carried the genetic information for infection, grown and development, using a Waring blender (the successful experiment provided one of the foundations of molecular biology, and Hershey would win the Nobel Prize).
