Chazal, Aline-Marie (1825–1869)

French dressmaker. Name variations: Aline Chazal; Aline Gauguin. Born 1825 in Paris, France; died July 7, 1869, in Paris; dau. of Flora Tristan (French activist, 1803–1844) and André-François Chazal (lithographer); m. Clovis Gauguin (Republican), 1846 (died 1851); children: Marie Gauguin (b. 1847); Paul Gauguin (artist, 1848–1903).

Was abused sexually by father, for which her mother Flora Tristan brought charges against him and claimed custody (her father would later shoot her mother, though she survived); lived in Lima, Peru, with her children for 4 years (1851–55); opened a dressmaking business in Paris (1861).
