Conway, Jill Ker (1934–)
Australian-born memoirist and educator. Born 1934 in Hillston, NSW, Australia; attended Abbotsleigh School; graduate of University of Sydney, 1958; Harvard University, PhD, 1969; m. John Conway (Canadian historian), 1962.
Resided in the Australian outback until the death of her sheep-rancher father (1945); moved to Sydney with mother and brothers; moved to US (1960); taught at University of Toronto (1964–75), serving as vice president (1973–75); became the 1st woman president of Smith College (1975), serving for 10 years; wrote When Memory Speaks: Reflections on Autobiography (1998).
