Queen of the English. Name variations: Aethelflaeda the Fair; Ethelfled; the White Duck. Died in childbirth in 962 (some sources cite 965) in Wessex, England; interred at Wilton Abbey, Wiltshire; dau. of Ordmaer, an ealdorman, and Ealda; became 1st wife of Edgar the Peaceful (944–975), king of the English (r. 959–975), 959; children: Edward II the Martyr (962–978), king of the English (r. 975–978).
