American writer. Born Jan 19, 1905; died July 5, 1996, in New York, NY; graduated magna cum laude from Goucher College, 1925; m. a journalist (div.); m. Frank Hummert, 1934 (died 1966): children: (1st m.) 1 son.
With husband Frank, created 1st daytime soap opera, "Just Plain Bill," which premiered on radio (1933) and immediately caught the imagination of radio listeners throughout nation; churned out a total of 18 popular daytime serials, 90 15-minute episodes a week (1930s–40s).
