Burundi politician. Born in 1953 in Burundi; graduate in economic management of Burundi Univerity; married to a Hutu (died 1993); children: 5.
A moderate member of Tutsi-based National Party for Unity and Progress (UPRONA), served as prime minister of Burundi (July 10, 1993–Feb 11, 1994), during which time democratically elected president Melchior Ndadaye, a Hutu, was killed by renegade Tutsi troops (Oct 21, 1993); managed to hold the government together; was president of Federation of African Creators (1993–94).
