American stage, tv, and screen actress. Born Ruth Maxine Finkelstein, April 24, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa; died Dec 14, 2002, in San Francisco, CA.
Before acting, pursued a career in opera; appeared as Madame Pernelle in Tartuffe in American Conservatory Theater's premiere production in San Francisco (1967) and remained with the company, off and on, until 1994. Nominated for Tony Award for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1963).
