Forerunner of feminist science-fiction writers (1970s), who created the characters Northwest Smith and Jirel of Jory; solo works include Judgement Night (1952), Doomsday Morning (1960), and short-story collections Shambleau and Others (1953), Jirel of Joiry (1969), and The Best of C. L. Moore (1975); collaborated with husband under 17 pseudonyms for such works as The Day He Died (1947), Fury (1950), Well of the Worlds (1953), Earth's Last Citadel (1964), The Time Axis (1965), The Mark of Circe (1971), and short-story collections A Gnome There Was (1950), Ahead of Time (1953), No Boundaries (1955), and Clash by Night (1980), among others.
