Russian playwright, novelist and short-story writer. Name variations: Liudmila Stepanovna Petrushévskaia. Born 1938 in USSR.
Pioneer of new Russian literature after glasnost, whose plays were 1st performed by avant-garde troupes but later became popular in mainstream theaters, appeared on the literary scene in 1970s; works, which are noted for sardonic humor and gritty presentations of daily life, include Balancing Acts (1973), Images … (1974), Three Girls in Blue (1980), Our Crowd (1988, trans. into English, 1990) and (novel) The Time: Night (1992, trans. into English, 1994).
