American arts educator. Name variations: Mary Dana Hicks; Mrs. Louis Prang. Born Mary Amelia Dana, Oct 7, 1836, in Syracuse, NY; died Nov 7, 1927, in Stoneham, MA; dau. of Major Dana (merchant) and Agnes Amelia Livington (Johnson) Dana; m. Charles Spencer Hicks (lawyer), Oct 7, 1856 (died 1858); Louis Prang (lithographer and arts-supplies manufacturer), April 15, 1900 (died June 14, 1909); children: (1st m.) 1 daughter.

Became supervisor of drawing for schools in Syracuse (1868); worked for Prang Educational Co. (1879–1900), including as director of correspondence normal school (from 1884); served as president of Civic Club of Ward 19 in Boston, MA (1909–12). Through collaboration on Prang's correspondence-school manuals, helped disseminate principles of German educator Friedrich Froebel.
