American actress. Born Doris May Roberts, Nov 4, 1929, in St. Louis, MO; grew up in the Bronx and Manhattan; studied at Neighborhood Playhouse; m. Michael Cannata, 1950 (div. 1962); m. William Goyen, 1963 (died 1983); children: (1st. m) Michael.

Character actress, appeared on Broadway in The Time of Your Life (1955), Last of the Red Hot Lovers (1969) and Bad Habits (1974), among others; tv appearances include "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Soap," "Maggie," and "Remington Steele"; had best role as Marie Barone in "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1996–2005); films include Something Wild (1961), Little Murders (1971), A New Leaf (1971), The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), Hester Street (1975), The Rose (1979) and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003).
