Began career as a screenwriter (1926); colloborated with husband on numerous films before becoming a director in her own right, specializing in musicals and opera adaptations; directed Pravo ottsov, Peterburgskaya noch, Pokolenije pobeditelej, V poiskakh radosti, Boyevoj kinosbornik 12, Marite, Bolshoj kontsert, Boris Godunov, Veselye zhvezd', Polyushko pole, Khovanschina, My russkij narod and Serdtse Rossii.
