Bunker, Carol Laise (1918–1991)

American diplomat. Born Carol Laise in 1918; died in Virginia in 1991; married diplomat Ellsworth Bunker, 1967.

Beginning her career with the State Department in 1948, Carol Laise Bunker rose to become ambassador to Nepal, where she served from 1966 to 1973. In 1967, she married Ellsworth Bunker, ambassador to Vietnam, with whom she maintained a commuter marriage, the first between two American ambassadors. She later went on to serve at the United Nations and as assistant secretary of state.
