Fannia (fl. mid–1st c.)
Fannia (fl. mid–1st c.)
Roman noblewoman. Flourished mid–1st century ce; daughter of Thrasea Paetus and Arria Minor; granddaughter of Caecina Paetus (a Roman senator) and Arria Major (d. 42 ce); married Helvidius Priscus the Elder (praetor 70 ce); children: (stepson) Helvidius Priscus the Younger.
As the daughter of Thrasea Paetus and Arria Minor and the granddaughter of Caecina Paetus and Arria Major (d. 42 ce), Fannia was a dissenter to the manor born; she sided with her husband Helvidius Priscus the Elder in his provocative attitude toward the emperor Vespasian (r. 69–79), causing her repeated exile; her stepson continued the cause. Like Arria Minor, Fannia returned to Rome after the death of Domitian (r. 81–96), in 96 ce.
