Holy Roman empress and queen of Bohemia. Name variations: Eleanor of Gonzaga; Eleanora I Gonzaga; Eleanore de Mantoue Gonzaque. Born on September 23, 1598, in Mantua; died on June 27, 1655, in Vienna; daughter of Eleonora de Medici (1567–1611) and Vincenzo I (1562–1612), 4th duke of Mantua; sister of Margherita Gonzaga , duchess of Lorraine (1591–1632); became second wife of Ferdinand II, king of Bohemia and Hungary (r. 1578–1637), Holy Roman emperor (r. 1619–1637), on February 4, 1622.
Eleonora I Gonzaga was born in 1598 in Mantua, daughter of Eleonora de Medici and Vincenzo I, 4th duke of Mantua. She married Ferdinand II, king of Bohemia and Hungary, on February 4, 1622. Ferdinand's first wife was Maria Anna of Bavaria (1574–1616). Eleonora I's portrait was painted by Lucrina Fetti .
