Gredal, Eva (1927—)

Danish politician and government official . Born in Copenhagen in 1927; married; four children.

An office worker who attended university classes in the evenings, Eva Gredal was a social worker for several years before pursuing her political interests. She served as chair of the National Social Advice Association from 1959 to 1967, and was vice-chair of the National Association of Women from 1967 to 1971. In 1971, she was elected to Parliament by a Copenhagen constituency. She served as Minister for Social Affairs from 1971 to 1973, and again from 1977 to 1978, when a change in government prompted her resignation. Gredal was elected to the European Parliament in 1979.
