Duchess of Albany. Born Helene Friederike Auguste, princess of the small German principality of Waldeck-Pyrmont, in Arolsen, Hesse, Germany, on February 17, 1861; died in Hinterris, Tyrol, Austria, on September 1, 1922; daughter of George Victor, prince of Waldeck
and Pyrmont, and Helen of Nassau (1831–1888); sister of Emma of Waldeck (1858–1898, queen and regent of the Netherlands); married Leopold Saxe-Coburg (1853–1884), duke of Albany, in 1882; children: Alice of Athlone (1883–1981); Charles Edward Saxe-Coburg, 2nd duke of Albany (1884–1954).
