Iseut de Capio (1140–?)

French noblewoman and poet. Born in 1140 in southern France.

A troubadour in southern France during the height of the troubadour period, Iseut de Capio's family background is unknown. She was probably from the town of Les Chapelins, in the southeast corner of modern France. Only one of her poems still survives; it is a tenson, or dialogue, written with another female troubadour, Almucs de Castelnau . In the poem, Iseut asks Almucs to act more kindly to a dying knight or to at least let him receive the sacraments before his death; Almucs, who resents the knight for his discourteous behavior towards her, refuses to forgive him unless Iseut can get him to repent his actions.
