Andreini, Virginia (née Ramponi)

Andreini, Virginia (née Ramponi), Italian actress and soprano, known as La Florinda; b. Milan, Jan. 1, 1583; d. Bologna, 1630. She was active as an actress in the theatrical enterprise of her husband, Giovanni Battista Andreini. Monteverdi wrote the title role of his opera L’Arianna for her, which she created in Mantua on May 28, 1608.
