Gheorghiu, Valentin, Romanian composer; b. Galaji, March 21, 1928. He studied composition with Jora and Andricu at the Bucharest Cons., and then piano with Lazare Lévy and harmony at the Paris Cons. (1937-39). His works include 2 syms. (1949; 1953, rev. 1974), Piano Concerto (1959), Imagini din copilarie, suite for Orch. (1961), Burlesca for Piano and Orch. (1964), String Quartet (1946), Piano Sonata (1946), Cello Sonata (1950), Piano Trio (1950), and songs.
