Kufferath, Johann Hermann
Kufferath, Johann Hermann, German violinist, conductor, and composer, brother of Hubert Ferdinand Kufferath and Louis Kufferath; b. Mülheim an der Ruhr, May 12, 1797; d. Wiesbaden, July 28, 1864. He studied with his father, then violin with Spohr and composition with Hauptmann. In 1823 he became music director in Bielefeld, and, in 1830, in Utrecht, of the Collegium Musicum and Gesangverein (until 1862). His works include overtures, cantatas, and motets.
