Kufferath, Louis, German pianist, conductor, and composer, brother of Hubert Ferdinand Kufferath and Johann Hermann Kufferath; b. Mülheim an der Ruhr, Nov. 10, 1811; d. St. Josse-ten-Noode, near Brussels, March 2, 1882. He studied with his brother Johann Hermann, and with Schneider in Dessau. He toured as a pianist in Holland and Germany. He was director of the Leeuwarden Cons. (1836–50), after which he was in Ghent, and later in Brussels. He wrote a Mass, a cantata, 250 canons, many piano pieces in salon style, and songs.
