Kuijken, Sigiswald (b Dilbeck, nr. Brussels, 1944). Belgian violinist, viol-player, and conductor. Self-taught on baroque vn., which he played from 1970, having begun to learn old technique of vn.-playing in 1969. Member of avant-garde Musique Nouvelle to 1974 and Alarius Ens. 1964–72. Taught baroque vn., Hague Cons., from 1971. Founded baroque orch. La Petite Bande 1972. London début 1986. Founded Kuijken Str. Qt. 1986. Recorded Bach sonatas with Gustav Leonhardt.
