Lindeman, Osmo (Uolevi)

Lindeman, Osmo (Uolevi), Finnish composer; b. Helsinki, May 16, 1929; d. there, Feb. 15, 1987. He studied with Linnala and Fougstedt at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (1956–59). In 1959 he was awarded a UNESCO grant to the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, where he studied for a year with Orff; upon returning to Finland, he taught at the Sibelius Academy (1961–84). In his works, he at first adopted a traditional Romantic manner, but after 1968 devoted himself to electronic music.
