Ostropales (subdivision Ascomycotina) An order of fungi in which the asci are cylindrical and contain 8 smooth, colourless, commonly thread-like, multiseptate (see SEPTATE) spores. The ascocarps are apothecioid (see APOTHECIUM) or perithecioid (see PERITHECIUM). Species include saprotrophic, plant-parasitic, and lichenized fungi.
