Chairman of governors of Reading Technical College, 1959-68; Poynton Visiting Professor of Physics at City University, 1971-, and Robert Kitchin (Saddlers) Research Professor; lecturer; chairman of the convocation at University of Sheffield. Member of British team seconded to University of California, Berkeley, and Oak Ridge, Tenn., to work on the development of the atomic bomb, 1944-45; visitor at British Iron and Steel Research Association, 1949-55, and Aslib, 1955-62; member of scientific and governmental committees.
