August Rush ★★ 2007 (PG)
Lyla (Russell) is a classical cellist who falls for club-band musician Louis (Rhys Myers) and soon finds herself pregnant with his child. Her overbearing stage father tells her the baby has died and ships him off to an orphanage. Fast-forward 11 years and little orphan Evan (adorable Highmore) hears music in everything. He thinks if he learns how to play an instrument, his parents—who he knows are musicians—will find him. Through sheer force, a few side players, a healthy dose of appropriately sappy music, and a whole lotta far-fetched coincidences, the family is reunited. Utterly and unapologetically predictable, but it won't matter a bit if your idea of a good film is one in which you need an entire box of tissues. 113m/C DVD .
