Director Armendariz's engaging production is set in 1944 when 21-year-old Lucia (Jimenez) goes back to her home land only to witness the dramatic and violent impact that the Spanish Civil War has had upon the people of her rustic village. Still, she finds love with Manuel (Botto), a blacksmith who is part of the resistance group, the Maquis. An uprising swells and Franco's fascist army shows up to squash it, forcing the young lovers to face the cruto el realities inherent to the hostilities. In Spanish with subtitles. 110m/C VHS, DVD .
