Hot Rod 2007
Hot Rod ★★ 2007 (PG-13)
Twenty-seven year old moped-riding stuntman-wannabe Rod Kimble (Samberg) lives at home with mom Marie (Spacek) and step-dad Frank (McShane). Rod's real dad, now dead, is a legend as a former Evel Kneivel second-hand man who is said to have performed all of Evel's stunts himself in order to test the bikes. Rod dreams of making his father proud; meanwhile he and stepdad go at it like archrivals, and Rod's always on the losing side of their jousts. Rod sees his chance when they learn that Frank needs a $50,000 heart transplant—money they don't have. He'll raise the money by jumping over 15 buses on his moped, fix Frank's heart, and then beat him to a pulp. Loaded with goofy gags, and aimed at “Napoleon Dynamite,” “Saturday Night Live” (several of the film's cast are from SNL,) and Will Ferrell fans, but never nails the landing. Has some moments, but that's about it. 88m/C DVD, HD DVD .
