Kingfish: A Story of Huey P. Long ★★½ 1995

Charismatic political kingpin of Louisiana, Huey P. Long is brought to vivid life with Goodman's swaggering portrayal. Story is told in flashback, beginning with Long's assassination in 1935. A champion of the working man, Long parlayed charm and corruption into a Depression-era political career as governor and U.S. Senator. But naturally, the hard-drinking, hard-loving Long makes a lot of enemies along the way. Long's life was also memorably recreated in Robert Penn Warren's “All the King's Men,” as was that of his younger brother, Governor Earl Long, in the film “Blaze.” 97m/C VHS . John Goodman, Matt Craven, Anne Heche, Ann Dowd, Jeff(rey) Perry, Bob Gunton, Hoyt Axton, Kirk Baltz, Bill Cobbs; D: Thomas Schlamme; W: Paul Monash; M: Patrick Williams.
