Azkué (Aberasturi), Resurrección María de
Azkué (Aberasturi), Resurrección María de, Spanish composer and musicologist; b. Lequeitio, Aug. 5, 1864; d. Bilbao, Nov. 9, 1951. He studied theology in Spain, then went to Paris and studied music at the Schola Cantorum. He wrote two operas to Basque texts: Ortzuri (Bilbao, 1911) and Urlo (Bilbao, 1913), and several zarzuelas. He publ. a valuable collection, Cancionero popular Vasco (11 vols.), and Literatura popular del País Vasco (4 vols., the last containing musical examples).
