AZIZ°
AZIZ °, king of Emesa in Syria (d. 54 c.e.). Aziz succeeded Sampigermos, who had diplomatic and family relationships with *Agrippa i, king of Judea. These ties were strengthened when Aziz married Drusilla, Agrippa ii's sister, and even agreed to undergo circumcision. The marriage did not last long, for *Felix, the procurator of Judea, was infatuated with her and married her. Aziz died in the first year of Nero's reign and was succeeded by his brother Soemis.
