Bennet, John (b c.1575; fl.1599–1614). Eng. (probably Lancastrian) composer of madrigals, whose first book, for 44 vv., pubd. 1599, refers in preface to his youth. Remembered for All creatures now are merry-minded, his contribution to The Triumphs of Oriana, in which it is No.4, and Weep, O mine eyes. Not to be confused with John Benet.
