Dow, Dorothy (b Houston, Texas, 1920). Amer. soprano. Sang and dir. NY choirs 1938–44. Début Buffalo 1944 (Santuzza in concert perf. of Cavalleria rusticana). Created Susan B. Anthony in f.p. of V. Thomson's The Mother of Us All, Columbia Univ., NY, 1947. Member of Zurich Opera 1948–50; La Scala from 1950. Sang the Woman in f. Amer. p. of Schoenberg's Erwartung (NYPO 1951)). Glyndebourne début 1952. Sang Renata in f. stage p. of Prokofiev's The Fiery Angel (Venice, 1955).
