Goethals, Lucien (Gustave Georges)

Goethals, Lucien (Gustave Georges), Belgian composer and teacher; b. Ghent, June 26, 1931. He studied with Rosseau at the Royal Cons, in Ghent (1947-56) and took courses at the Ghent Inst. for Psycho-Acoustics and Electronic Music at the Univ. of Ghent; he also worked in an electronic studio in Ger-many. In 1963 he organized the Belgian contemporary music group Spectra. From 1971 to 1991 he taught at the Ghent Cons. In 1981 he was awarded the Culture Prize of the City of Ghent. His compositions explore the problems of modernistic constructivism.
