Hameenniemi, Eero (Olavi)
Hameenniemi, Eero (Olavi), Finnish composer; b. Valkeakoski, April 29, 1951. He studied with Heininen at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (1973–78), Schaeffer in Kraków, Donatoni in Italy (1979), and Schwantner and Warren Benson at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. (1980–81). In 1975 he became active with Korvat Auki, the Finnish society for the promotion of contemporary music, serving as its chairman (until 1979; 1981-82). He also taught at the Sibelius Academy (from 1977).
