Heller, Hans Ewald
Heller, Hans Ewald, German-American composer; b. Vienna, April 17, 1894; d. N.Y., Oct. 1, 1966. He studied with J. B. Foerster and Camillo Horn. He was engaged in Vienna as a music critic and teacher. In 1938 he settled in the U.S. Among his compositions were the light operas Satan (Vienna, 1927), Messalina (Prague, 1928), and Der Liebling von London (Vienna, 1930), an overture, Carnival in New Orleans (1940), a cantata, Ode to Our Women (1942), 2 string quartets, Suite for Clarinet and Piano, and about 150 songs.
