Jochum, Georg Ludwig
Jochum, Georg Ludwig, German conductor, brother of Eugen Jochum and Otto Jochum; b. Babenhausen, Dec. 10, 1909; d. Mülheim an der Ruhr, Nov. 1, 1970. He studied at the Augsburg Cons. and then with Haas (composition) and Hausegger (conducting) at the Munich Academy of Music. He was music director in Münster (1932-34), and then a conductor at the Frankfurt am Main Opera and Museumgesellschaft concerts (1934-37). He subsequently was Generalmusikdirektor in Linz (1940-45) and Duisburg (1946-58), and also director of the Duisburg Cons. (1946-58). He appeared as a guest conductor in Europe, South America, and Japan.
