Kono, Kristo
Kono, Kristo, Albanian composer; b. Korçë, July 17, 1907; d. Tirana, Jan. 22, 1991. After training at the Milan Cons., he returned to Albania and became a prominent figure in the development of a national music. He eventually championed the cause of socialist realism. Kono composed the first Albanian operetta Agimi (The Dawn; Korçë, Nov. 22, 1954). Among his other works were the opera Lulja e kujtimit (The Flowers of Remembrance; Tirana, Nov. 5, 1961), orch. pieces, and choral works.
