Koželuh (Kozeluch, Koscheluch), Johann Antonin (Jan Evangelista Antonin Tomáš), Bohemian composer, cousin of Leopold (Jan Antonín) Koželuh (Kozeluch, Kotzeluch); b. Welwarn, Dec. 14, 1738; d. Prague, Feb. 3, 1814. He began music studies at school in Welwarn, and was then a chorister at the Jesuit Coll. in Breznice. Subsequently he studied with J.F.N. Seger in Prague, then went to Vienna, where he had instruction from Gluck, Gassmann, and Hasse. Upon his return to Prague, he became Kapellmeister at St. Virus’s Metropolitan Cathedral (1784–1814). His cousin was one of his pupils. He composed the operas Alessandro nell’Indie (Prague, 1769) and II Demofoonte (Prague, 1771), much sacred music, including 2 oratorios, about 45 masses, and 5 Requiems, etc., 4 syms., an Oboe Concerto, 2 bassoon concertos, and many other instrumental works.
