Láng, Paul Henry (b Budapest, 1901; d Lakeville, Conn., 1991). Hung.-born musicologist and critic (Amer. cit. 1934). Chamber-mus. pianist and orch. bassoonist in Budapest. Went to USA 1928. Ass. prof. of mus. Vassar Coll., 1930–1, assoc. prof. of mus. Wells Coll., 1931–3, assoc. prof. of musicology, Columbia Univ. 1933–9, prof. 1939–69. Mus. critic, NY Herald Tribune 1954–63. Ed., Musical Quarterly 1945–73. Author of several books incl. Music in Western Civilisation (NY, 1941), George Frideric Handel (NY 1966), Critic at the Opera (NY 1971), and the anthologies The Concerto 1800–1900 (NY 1969) and The Symphony 1800–1900 (NY 1969).
