Le Roux, François, French baritone; b. Rennes, Oct. 30, 1955. He studied at the Paris Opéra Studio, his principal mentors being Vera Rosza and Elisabeth Grümmer. After appearing at the Lyons Opera (1980–85), he made his debut at the Paris Opéra as Pelléas. His great success as Pelléas was repeated when he reprised that role in Milan (1986), Vienna (1988), Helsinki (1989), and Cologne (1992). In 1987 he made his first appearance at the Glyndebourne Festival as Ramiro in L’heure espagnole. He sang Lescaut in Manon at London’s Covent Garden in 1988, and returned there in 1991 to create the title role in Birtwistle’s Gawain and in 1993 to sing Pelléas. In 1996 he appeared as Nick Shadow in Madrid. Among his other roles were Mozart’s Count, Papageno, and Don Giovanni.
