Lipphardt, Walther
Lipphardt, Walther, German musicologist; b. Wiescherhofen bei Hamm, Oct. 14, 1906; d. Frankfurt am Main, Jan. 17, 1981. He studied musicology with Moser at the Univ. of Heidelberg and with Gurlitt at the Univ. of Freiburg im Breisgau, then took additional courses at the Univ. of Heidelberg with Besseler, graduating with a Ph.D. in 1931 with the diss. Über die altdeutschen Marienklagen.He subsequently was on the faculty of the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt am Main (1946–70). He publ, numerous valuable papers on liturgical music and ed. works of Renaissance composers.
